VISIONInstitute of Science of Mind envisions a Buddhist Learning Centre where a wide diversity of people can have easy access to the sublime teachings of Buddha and carry related research works. About the Institute of Science of Mind. The Institute was established and inaugurated by His Holiness, the 70th Je Khenpo Trulku Jigme Choedra in the male horse year, on 18th April, 2014. Bhutan is a sacred land where the Dharma has continued to flourish since early times, and notably during the 8th century, when Ugyen Guru Rinpoche, the Precious Master, who visited Bhutan and blessed countless places. Later, in the 17th century, in accordance with his own prophecy, and the collective merit of the people of Bhutan, a man called Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, who was considered to be a heart son of Buddha from Tibet, came to Bhutan following a dream vision, naming the place as Druk and its people as Drukpa, after settling in Bhutan. In addition, Zhabdrung initiated the dual spiritual and secular tradition for the wellbeing of all, thereby protecting and preserving both the religion and the country. He is also regarded with deep gratitude in Bhutan, as the figure who brought Buddhism into the full prosperity, which is now considered as the main root for enduring happiness in the country. With such a long and illustrious history, the Institute was founded in order to preserve and nourish Buddhism and its philosophical studies. Moreover, it is intended to fulfill the wishes of His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck and His Majesty the Fifth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, by promoting the fundamental well-being of people, as expressed by the philosophy of Gross National Happiness. Since, the positivity of mind is the only way to gain eternal happiness, fidelity (truth) and the law of Karma (cause and effect) need to be deeply understood by all. Therefore, in order to introduce the unfailing path of the Buddhist traditional sciences, and with the above objectives in mind, the Institute of Science of Mind was established by the Royal Buddhist University of Bhutan, the Central Monastic Body Bhutan. |
